The free-agent crop of receivers isn’t deep. But Adam Schein says Bernard Berrian should draw interest on the open market.
Eagles release DE Kearse
The Philadelphia Eagles have cut Jevon Kearse. The Eagles released the former rookie of the year Thursday. The 31-year-old defensive end failed to live up to the lofty expectations when he signed as a free agent in 2004. Kearse recorded 3 1/2 sacks in 14 games last season and saw his playing time diminish late in the year. He missed most of the 2006 season with a knee injury. Early in his career, Kearse was one of the NFL’s most feared pass rushers. He had 36 sacks in his first three season.

Congress raises possibility of drug sports law
Once again, professional sports and their leaders were hauled up to Capitol Hill on Wednesday by lawmakers who say they might try once again to legislate drug-testing policies for U.S. leagues. Facing a House subcommittee that also held hearings on steroids in 2005, commissioners sat side-by-side with their sport’s union chief: Bud Selig was inches away from Donald Fehr; the NBA’s David Stern was next to Billy Hunter.
Buccaneers Team Report (The Sports Xchange)
The Bucs hit the ground running in the off-season.
Tampa Bay is exploring a trade for Broncos receiver Javon Walker and attempting to sign Falcons defensive tackle Rod Coleman and tight end Alge Crumpler.
After finishing 9-8 in 2007 and winning a third NFC South title in the last six years under coach Jon Gruden, the Bucs want to add layers to the foundation they constructed last off-season.
There will be several fronts that general manager Bruce Allen will attack at once and the Bucs are well-armed with nearly $30-million under the salary cap.
“As we unfortunately got to experience last year due to injuries, we’re hoping to address every position,” Allen said.
